Estate Planners, Elder Law Attorneys, and Wealth and Trust Advisors turn to TLS to handle it all.

Realtors, Geriatric Care Managers, and families have traditionally turned to Transitions Liquidation Services when a client is transitioning to a smaller home or to a senior community.

More and more, Estate Planners, Elder Law Attorneys, and Wealth and Trust Advisors call upon Marie LeBlanc and TLS as well. When they or their clients require assistance in dealing with the myriad of details that go along with a need to prepare and sell a home or handle an estate after a client passes.

The services rendered can include the entire scope or specific tasks required when a proven and more cost-effective and timely solution is needed. Often there is a restrictive timeframe – perhaps to meet a closing date – and there can be family or beneficiary dynamics at play which require special handling and skills.

Since 2002, Transitions Liquidation has been assisting realtors, estate planners, elder law attorneys, trust and wealth advisors, and families deal with the following tasks to complete a successful home sale, estate closure and transition:

Transitions Liquidation Services coordinates with family members to make decisions about household furnishings, décor, artwork, and family heirlooms:

  • Who wants what
  • Who gets what
  • Resolving conflicts
  • Equitable distribution of items not stipulated in the will
  • Maintain assignment lists by recipient, divided into immediate distributions and post-home sale distribution, based on the staging of items to sell the home
  • Distribute lists to each recipient for sign-off when items are assigne· Handles recommending and implementing cost effective delivery and shipment to recipients.

TLS implements a plan for Non-Assigned Items and will:

  • Make unclaimed items available to family based on an agreed upon assignment method and adds items to the assignment list for full tracking and documentation purposes.
  • Handle items taken for consignment sale, private sale, or donation with documentation.
  • Dispose of unclaimed items, including hazardous materials

If a home is to be sold, TLS coordinates with the realtor to:

  • Mark items to be retained for staging purposes including furniture, rugs, decorative items, and artwork.
  • Oversee removal of property not used for staging.
  • Ship/deliver specific items to assigned recipients after sale of home.
  • Contract with a house cleaner and/or leave home in “broom swept condition.”

If a move to a new home or community is involved:

TLS contracts with the moving company and oversees the packing, moving, and unpacking of all furnishings and household items so that the new home is turn-key ready with everything unpacked, put away and décor placed properly in familiar positions. All services are offered on an a la carte basis. TLS can also coordinate with a colleague in the National Association of Senior and Specialty Mover Managers located throughout the US to successfully transition a senior to another part of the country.

With experience gained during over 2500 transitions in 22 years, Marie LeBlanc has learned how to deal with people during difficult and challenging times. There are often conflicts among family members and her approach is one that combines structure with compassion to help in creating equitable solutions.

“I know how to be the ‘bad guy’ in a difficult situation and our professional colleagues are always impressed with our communication skills across a team that can involve realtors, lawyers, family members and many others,” Marie says. “I tell the estate planners and lawyers I deal with that, if they want, I’ll make certain decisions to unstick a sticky situation and let them know. Ultimately, the decision is theirs, but they don’t have to deal with it. They like it when they don’t have to get into the weeds and feel their time can be better spent providing other services for their client.”
