Coordinating an out-of-state move is just a matter of tending to all the details and having well-established, strong partnerships. We have trusted partners in locations far and wide that we rely on to ensure that the details we cannot handle in person are completed as though we were on the scene ourselves.
For example, we are working now on a project that will take place in March. Our client is moving from Massachusetts to Maine. We are already doing the prep work by engaging move management colleagues to take detailed measurements of the new apartment. We will then create a floor plan that specifies where each piece of our client’s furniture, household items, and décor will be located.
We have received photos of the space and a video. We look at photos of the interiors of closets to determine just how many items of clothing can be accommodated. Photos and measurements of the kitchen cabinets help us to know what tableware, pots, pans, and utensils can be taken from the current home to the new one and where they will fit. This streamlines the packing and unpacking process … and saves money in moving costs.
Another cost-saving technique involves working with local staff at our client’s destination city, rather than bringing staff with us to unpack and set up, which would mean extra travel expenses.
We can also arrange for our client’s vehicle to be transported to another part of the country, as needed.
It’s a matter of management …
In addition to handling the myriad details involved in moving out of state, Transition Liquidation Services coordinates with Gentle Giant Movers to schedule arrival for a coordinated day and time. We also discuss special off-load instructions that may be necessary for a smooth delivery.
Gentle Giant also assists with unpacking and removes all packing materials when finished. Often our clients do not take a full tractor trailer load of items since they are downsizing. In that case their items are transported in conjunction with other shipments. When the move is to a senior community, we ascertain in advance if a tractor trailer will fit for unloading. If not, Gentle Giant transfers the clients’ items to a standard sized moving truck to make the delivery. If special insurance is needed or overnight accommodations are required, TLS makes the arrangements.
A special feature offered by Gentle Giant is their custom inventory software that ties a specific QR code to a single item that is being moved interstate. The software provides TLS and its clients with a PDF file showing a small photo of each item and its QR number. Not only does this allow TLS and Gentle Giant to track and account for all items, it also minimizes the risk of loss. In addition, it allows Transitions Liquidation Services to assign an item to a specific location in the new home.
If TLS personnel are not on-site for the off-load and set up, we will forward photos to our colleagues that show furniture, décor, bookshelf contents, etc., so that the resulting home looks much like the prior one, making the transition less stressful and the home welcoming and comforting.
