Here are some questions to ask to be sure you select the right one!

It is important when searching for a care manager for a senior loved one, that you ask specific questions that will give you the information you need to make the right choice. The answers will help you to select a senior care manager quickly and efficiently.

  1. In which health care organizations are you a member? Individuals and assisted living communities that belong to organizations, such as the Aging Life Care Association, are committed to assisting elders and their families cope with the challenges of advancing age.
  2. What education have you had that assist your work with older adults? Professionals who bring a knowledge of the issues that affect the elderly are those who can separate myth from reality and who have the necessary tools to address the situations that may arise.
  3. What are your professional credentials? You want to learn about any specialized training or certifications earned in the field of elder health care.  Does the prospective care manager hold the necessary state license for nursing or social work?
  4. How long have you been a care manager? What services do you provide?
  5. Do you work alone or are you part of an agency? What other professionals work at your agency?
  6. Do you offer a complimentary initial consultation? Is it in-home or at your location?  What are your fees?
  7. What resources are you connected with in my community? You want to know that should additional services be needed, your care manager will have recommendations for you.
  8. Do you have a list of references you can give me? Be sure to get this list and follow up by calling those on it for additional information.

These questions will help you to determine whether the professional you are interviewing possesses the qualifications you need for the care of your loved one.  The ideal candidate will be a neutral third party, an unbelievable asset, who can provide the professional assistance you are looking for.
